Progress Continues on Rail Park, Downtown Redevelopment

Four years ago, when local officials came to the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon to talk about the efforts to remove the train tracks and redevelop the community’s core, the presentation had to be delayed.
It was delayed, because a half-mile long freight train was gumming up traffic in downtown Kalispell.
On June 21, local officials returned with an update on the effort that has made strides in recent months since receiving a $10 million TIGER grant from the federal government. During the chamber luncheon, local officials laid out a timeline for when construction of the rail park and downtown trail would begin. Officials with the Kalispell Center Mall also announced that Herberger’s would be doubling in size to 80,000 square feet.

KALISPELL - Residents and businesses gathered at the Red Lion Inn on Tuesday to hear all about the changes that will be taking place in Kalispell.

More than 100 business owners, community leaders and citizens showed up at the annual Kalispell Chamber of Commerce luncheon to learn about what is in store for the Kalispell core and rail redevelopment plan.

The City of Kalispell and FCEDA will be presenting an update about the Kalispell Core & Rail Redevelopment at the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce lunch on June 21st. The presentation will consist of maps, photos and video outlining the project highlights, goals, and timeline. CHS General Manager Mark Lalum will also share information about their new facility to be built at the Glacier Rail Park.

Like the reality TV shows that stream into our homes daily, the City of Kalispell is hard at work on its own “makeover” project for Kalispell’s Core Area. As realtors in the Flathead Valley, we could not be more excited to welcome this fresh look and the positive economic impact it will bring to our community. As with any large project, the Core and Rail Redevelopment has many moving parts and stakeholders. There are numerous timelines, deadlines and milestones to be completed before the grand unveiling. We are patiently watching as the pieces fall into place.
